Miloš Obilić had created the secret Order of the Dragon of St George. There were 12 knights, himself included, belonging to this order. The aim of the order was the death of sultan Murad I. On June 15, 1389 (Julian calendar), (June 28 Gregorian calendar), during the first Battle of Kosovo, Miloš was accused of treachery in the Serbian court and the nobles attempted to turn , the King and Milos friend, away from Milos. Milos in turn, when the battle began, waved a white flag indicating his surrender to the Sultan and rode past the Sultan's army. The Sultan's men accepted him when Milos said that he was transferring his loyalty to the Turks. The Sultan accepted him and in a symbolic gesture ordered Milos Obilic to kiss his feet. Milos, hid a knife before he fled to the Turks, and as he knelt pulled it out and stabbed the Sultan. Miloš Obilić was later executed together with all other Serbian prisoners by Murad's son, Beyazid I. Another (Turkish) source says that the sultan Murad I was killed after a battle, when the Serbian noble Miloš made his way to the Sultan's tent and beheaded Murad. This event and the Kosovo battle itself is deeply embedded in the Serbian national consciousness, history, and poetry. This deed was proclaimed as Miloš Obilić's innermost desire to pay tribute to his people and to sacrifice himself in order to strike a blow against tyranny. See also
