History
ProfileThe school focuses early on a more advanced education in mathematics and sciences. An entrance examination has to be passed in order to get into the school. With more classes than normal in mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry and informatics the students from grade 7 on learn more than students in a regular high school. The school has also a contract with the University of Dresden which allows the school to send grade 11 and grade 12 students to that university to help professors and assistants in order to experience early what it is like to research and work scientifically. In grade 7 and 8 students go to the University of Dresden for one week as well, where they work on a small experiment. At the end of the week they present their results in front of an audience consisting of professors of the university, teachers of the school, and other students. Students from grade 12 take part in competitions like the International Physics Olympiad, the International Olympiad in Informatics or the International Chemistry Olympiad on a regular bases.
